Ken White is best known in Swindon for his public art murals, in particular his 1976 mural of a photo taken in 1904 of the Golden Lion bridge, Ken repainted this mural twice, in 1983 and then again in 2009, the last repaint was by Tim Carroll in 2025.

Ken also painted murals on Cambria bridge around 1979 and paintings on canvas including the Golden Lion bridge, Whale bridge and Commercial road bridge also known as Milton road bridge.

Take a closer look at the Golden Lion mural, in the far background in the middle is Isambard Kingdom Brunel, wearing his stovepipe hat which blends in with one of the bridge pillars, also in the forefront is Swindon poet Alfred Williams also known as "The Hammerman"

*The origins of the Swindon School of Art can be traced back to 1843 when educational classes for their employees were started by the Great Western Railway Company. It began life as a Mechanics' Institute providing training to railway and allied workers, and also as a secondary school. It was believed to have had the first lending library certainly in the British Isles if not further afield. The late 19th century saw the development of the School of Art, which was the first purpose-built art school in the south-west of England.
